Assigment 2 - Essay Example The crash between the particles in the issue has been seen by Field (2013) to be entirely flexible. This hypothesis has been basic in clarifying different qualities of issue including warming and change of state. In solids, the particles would be emphatically pulled in to each other more than they would be pulled in fluids and in gases. Acquaintance of warmth with the issue would make the atoms vibrate all the more rapidly, making some of it escape from the issue. For instance, when warmth is applied to ice, a strong express, the ice particles would vibrate, moving separated from one another to change to water, its fluid state. Warmth and Temperature Heat alludes to a type of vitality which when provided to an issue causes an expansion in the inward vitality of the issue, commonly comprised of both the motor and potential energies of the two its particles and molecules. The particles and atoms would have active vitality due to the translational, vibrational and rotational movements a nd potential vitality because of their relative positions. The more noteworthy the potential vitality of an issue, the more prominent the particles would be more remote separated. Thinking about a pot of soup and a cup of soup filled from it, the warm vitality, heat in the pot would be more prominent because of the more noteworthy number of particles moving and making vitality. Then again, temperature alludes to the amount of vitality in an atom instead of warmth which gauges the aggregate sum of vitality contained in all the particles in an issue. It alludes to the frigidity or hotness of an issue which depends on the normal motor vitality, thus the connection among warmth and temperature (Baser, 2006). Temperature quantifies the force instead of amount as in heat (Field, 2013). In that capacity, thinking about the instance of the soup, the particles could be averagely vibrating at a similar speed in the pot and the mug in this way making them both have a similar temperature in spi te of their distinction in size. Temperature, instead of warmth isn't vitality yet rather its measure. Warmth would ordinarily be moved from a more sizzling issue to a colder one until the two issues have same temperature. Be that as it may, now and again, heat move would not really lead to change in temperature as the particles of the issue engrossing warmth essentially change or revamp, alluded to as stage change. A model would be in water changing to fume during warming. Both warmth and temperature are not detectable amounts. Essentially, much the same as warmth, temperature could be estimated. The gadget used to gauge heat changes in a response is known as a calorimeter which quantifies in joules (Jung, Lorente, Anderson, and Bejan, 2011). A thermometer would be utilized to gauge temperature in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. Properties of a Substance deciding its Heat Capacity The warmth limit is a basic property of issue which speaks to the measure of vitality required to raise the temperature of a given amount of issue by one degree (Zhang et al., 2011). Various materials would have distinctive warmth limits. Take for example squares made of various materials however of a similar mass and cross area of bases. At the point when warmed in a stove to same temperature and put on a bit of ice, in spite of their equivalent mass and temperature, they would soften the ice to various profundities. At the point when estimated per unit mass, this would be alluded to as explicit warmth limit. Warmth limit of a material would rely upon its

Cause and Effect Essay - Plagiarism and Cheating :: Expository Cause Effect Essays

Circumstances and logical results Essay - Cheating   Educational systems today are so permissive in their principles, rules and results; in this manner causing cheating, replicating or frauds to be regularly utilized. Numerous understudies exploit duplicating another person's work at whatever point they are given the opportunity. Different occasions, understudies will just have another person accomplish their work and turn it in as their own, not understanding the impacts this conduct can make. This makes an absence of innovativeness, no awareness of other's expectations and the understudies will never get new information. These acts of cheating, duplicating and imitation by understudies are dishonest and ought to be brought to the surface at whatever point conceivable.   Understudies that duplicate other understudy's work are harming themselves over the long haul. Their inventiveness level drops each time they duplicate or have another person accomplish their work. Sooner or later of duplicating and manufacturing, the understudy's capacity to think inventively and effectively gets close to nothing. Teachers must keep on mingling understudies of any age about the significance of keeping up high moral principles, (Glazer 222). The instructive framework is the place understudies become familiar with these stunts and continue to convey them on into there proficient professions. This makes the inclination that life will consistently be a given to them with a royal flair. Matthew Arnolds Crisis of Faith - Literature Essay Samples

The Victorian Period of British Literature involved many changes in British culture; one of the defining qualities of Queen Victoria’s reign was a loss of faith in the Church. A number of social changes caused an increasing number of people to question their faith and leave organized religion, resulting in the crises of faith that were becoming more common among the population. English poet Matthew Arnold’s â€Å"Stanzas from the Grand Chartreuse† best exemplifies the many crises of faith experienced by Englishmen during the Victorian Age through Arnold’s use of description and metaphors. â€Å"Stanzas from the Grand Chartreuse† takes place in a monastery in the French Alps. Arnold’s work describes the crisis of faith he has been experiencing. Arnold does not return to the monastery to recover his lost faith in Christianity; he instead chooses to write about his struggle with any kind of faith. Throughout the poem, he makes it clear that he w ill not and cannot return to the Christian Church. Upon entering the monastery, Arnold begins to reminisce about youth and his eventual crisis of faith. He recalls how â€Å"rigorous teachers seized [his] youth† (67) and indoctrinated him into the Christian faith. Arnold hears his former teachers speaking to him in the monastery. They ask him, â€Å"What dost thou in this living tomb?† (72). The reason for Arnold’s visit to the monastery is called into question. Matthew responds to this question in the lines following the inquery. In his response, Arnold first seeks forgiveness for visiting the monastery; he writes, â€Å"Forgive me Masters of the Mind! At whose behest I long ago so much unlearnt, and so much resigned – I come not here to be your foe† (73-76). Arnold seeks forgiveness from the great minds of the Victorian Age. For Arnold, men and women like Charles Lyell, the author of Principles of Geology, have defeated the notion that religion is necessary to explain the world. These writers â₠¬Å"persuaded Arnold that faith in Christianity was no longer tenable in the modern world† (Norton 1390). Arnold believes that he is offending these men by being at the monastery. This shows that Arnold holds these intellectuals in higher regard than the Christian God he once believed in. He asserts that he is no longer Christian. Arnold is visitor to the monastery as one would be to â€Å"some fallen Runic stones† (83). He is visiting the monastery as a historical place, like an old Nordic monument depicting a now-dead religion (Norton 1390). Speaking of Christianity and Nordic religion, Arnold writes, â€Å"For both were faiths, and both are gone† (84). Arnold believes Christianity is reaching its end and will soon be viewed as any other ancient religion, such as the Nordic religion. Arnold later writes that he is with the â€Å"last of the people who believe† (112). Arnold makes it clear that this is not a trip to restore his lost faith; he is here to vi sit a part of history that no longer holds any control over him. In the monastery, Arnold finds himself, â€Å"wandering between two worlds, one dead, the other powerless to be born, with nowhere yet to rest his head† (85-87). The old age of Christianity (and similar organized religions) is over, but Arnold is unable to define his faith, or lack thereof, as a particular system of belief. The new age of reason has yet to be defined and named; it is still unborn. Until the new system is born, Arnold finds himself searching to be a part of something. He will not go back to his old Christian ways, so he must â€Å"wander† (85) until the new system is born. Arnold suffers from not being a part of the Christian faith. He describes his suffering as a â€Å"holy pain† (92). Many believe the pain â€Å"is a passed mode, an outworn theme† (100), but Arnold’s pain is â€Å"[restless]† (104). If the pain is not eased, Arnold would rather die with the last of the Christians (109-111). Death is preferable to Arnold’s painful wandering between two worlds. Even after death, this pain continues. Other men have felt such pain and it remains long after their deaths. Arnold writes, â€Å"Say, is life lighter now than then? The sufferers died, they left their pain – The pangs which tortured them remain† (130-132). Generations of men have experienced the transition Arnold is going through now, yet they resolved nothing during their lives. Arnold also references the Romantics while he visits the monastery. He specifically refers to Byron (133) and Shelley (139) specifically. Arnold believes that their work s, although beautiful, did little to ease this pain felt by many. For Arnold, Byron merely shared his â€Å"bleeding heart† (136) and â€Å"Europe made his woe her own† (138). Future generations will read Byron’s and Shelley’s work, but Arnold wonders if the â€Å"inheritors of [their] distress have restless hearts one throb the less?† (143-144). Romanticism is dead and its writers â€Å"slumber in [their] silent grave[s]† (151). Further writing to the Romantics, Arnold claims, â€Å"The world, which idle for a day Grace to your mood of sadness gave, Long hath flung her weeds away†¦ But we learnt your lore too well† (149-156). After the death of Romanticism, the world moved on, but many people continued to read the Romantics, trapped in a state of suffering. Byron, Shelley, and the other Romantics share similar feelings with Arnold, but this does not help Arnold escape the pain. The Romantics described suffering, but did little t o combat it. Although Arnold finds their works are beautiful and praise worthy, the Romantics did nothing to alleviate the suffering of man. Arnold then describes then describes the waiting process again. He does not know how it will be until the new age begins. He believes that â€Å"years hence, perhaps, may dawn an age, More fortunate, alas! Than we, Which without hardness will be sage, And gay without frivolity† (157-160). Arnold knows the process could be long and he asks the younger generations to bring about change quickly; he writes, â€Å"Sons of the world, oh, speed those years; But while we wait, allow our tears!† (161-162). Arnold needs to suffer and seeks permission to cry while he waits for change to come. Arnold, while he wanders in suffering, admires those who find tranquility in religious beliefs. He does not seek to end Christianity or any other religions, rather he writes, â€Å"Allow them! We admire with awe The exulting thunder of your race; You give the universe your law, You triumph over time and space!† (163-166). Arnold admires the religious because they believe they have control over the universe. Arnold wishes he could live that way, but he cannot go back. Arnold says to them, â€Å"Your pride of life, your tireless powers, We laud them, but they are not ours† (167-168). He praises those who are strongly religious, but they live a lifestyle he cannot return to. Even though he may not believe, he does not disrespect those who do. Arnold continues his writing with a metaphor. He uses a simile to compare himself to â€Å"children reared in shade Beneath some old-world abbey wall† (169-170). Arnold’s situation is similar to that of the children beca use they are trapped within a certain lifestyle. Arnold cannot go back to the religious life and the children cannot leave the abbey. They are â€Å"forgotten in a forest glade, And secret from the eyes of all. Deep, deep the greenwood round them waves, Their abbey, and its close of graves† (171-174). The children live in the abbey and will likely die in the abbey. Arnold live in his state of wandering and he will likely die in that same state of wandering. Further, the children have little to no adventure in their lives. They hear a call to action (192) but they reply, â€Å"Action and pleasure, will ye roam Through these secluded dells to cryand call us? – but too late ye come!† (194-196). The abbey children have already had their lives planned out. They cannot accept the call to action because it comes to them too late. They are destined to live and die in the abbey, rarely doing anything exciting. They further respond to the call, saying, â€Å"Too late for us your call ye blow, Whose bent was taken long ago (197-198). Their bent, or â€Å"natural inclination† (Norton 1393), was taken long ago by the authorities in the abbey. Naturally, they would accept a call to action, but they have been conditioned to reject such a call. They are trapped within the abbey much like Arnold is trapped in his state of wandering and suffering. Arnold, like the children in the abbey, just wants peace in his life. They children are â€Å"fenced early in this cloistral round Of reverie, of shade, of prayer† (205-206). They cannot escape their position, in which they have been stuck for a prolonged period of time. They ask that the â€Å"banners, pass, and bugles, cease; and leave [their] desert to its peace!† (209-210). The children are tormented by the outside sounds of lives they will never be able to live because they are stuck in the abbey; similarly, Arnold hears the calls of the abbey to return to a religious life. Like the chil dren, Arnold cannot accept the call of the Christian Church because he is trapped in his state of wandering and suffering. Like the children in the abbey who are conditioned to not accept their calls to action, Arnold will not allow himself to accept the Christian faith. Through his poetry, Matthew Arnold highlights many of the struggles faced by Victorians who experienced crises of faith. The Victorian Age brought many social changes and one of the areas most greatly affected was religion. Scientific publications, like Charles Lyell’s Principles of Geology, revolutionized many people’s ways of thinking. God was no longer the answer to everything. Science often conflicted with religious teachings. Because of this, Many people began leaving the Church and organized religion began dying. In response to this growing religious crisis, many Victorians responded with their experiences with their individual struggles with faith. A large number of Victorian authors wrote about their crises of faith, but none better exemplifies the experience than Matthew Arnold. Matthew Arnold’s â€Å"Stanzas from the Grand Chartreuse† best shows an individual’s crisis of faith because of Arnold’s use of description and metaphors in his writing.

Fighting Dyslexia - Free Essay Example

Dyslexia is quickly becoming one of the most common forms of learning disabilities in America. My personal purpose of conducting research on this topic is because my nine year old niece was diagnosed with dyslexia last year. The causes of all learning disabilities, not just dyslexia, are either heredity or environmental influences. Among these causes, each child is different, which is why it is most important to assess and treat the child as an individual not specifically as a child with dyslexia. The term â€Å"learning disabled† is a label given to a type of student who seems to be intelligent but is unable to learn academic material readily† (Stevenson, 1974, p. 3). It is hard to fully understand learning disabilities because they have so many misconceptions. Everyone has learning strengths and learning weaknesses. As adults, our weaknesses were either in areas which did not interfere seriously with our progress through school, or not severe enough to prevent us from achieving our most important goals. Children with learning disabilities, however, suffer an unlucky combination: not only are their weaknesses more pronounced than usual, but they also lie in those areas most likely to interfere with the acquisition of basic skills in reading, writing, or mathematics (Smith Strick, 1997). In order to overcome learning disabilities, it is vitally important for both parents and students to understand exactly in which of these areas deficits lie. It is needed to establish reasonable goals both at school and at home. Most important, this knowledge will ultimately make it possible for the child to become a confident, independent learner. Precise identification of a child’s learning problems involve a comprehensive evaluation. However, any adult concerned with children who have learning disabilities must understand the following three points. â€Å"First, children with learning disabilities frequently have problems in more than one area. Se cond, learning disabilities do not vanish when a child leaves school for the day. Lastly, learning disabilities can produce â€Å"emotional consequences† (Smith Strick, 1997, p. 33-34). Without the right kind of encouragement and support, young kids will rapidly stop believing in themselves and their ability to succeed. Quite often, parents are offered only a vague description of their children’s learning disabilities. You may be told that your child has â€Å"a written expression handicap,† for example, or that the child is moderately dyslexic†. When a parent asks what exactly â€Å"moderately dyslexic† means, they are usually told a simple definition such as, â€Å"the youngster has some trouble reading† (Smith Strick, 1997, p. 118). This is not the case; dyslexia is so much more intricate and specialized than that. The trouble with terms like these is that they give parents absolutely no idea what the student actually can and cannot d o. Columbia Encyclopedia defines dyslexia as, â€Å"in psychology, a developmental disability in reading or spelling, generally becoming evident in early schooling. To a dyslexic, letters and words may appear reversed, e. g. , d seen as b or was seen as saw. Many dyslexics never learn to read or write effectively, although they tend to show above average intelligence in other areas (Columbia Encyclopedia, 2009). Now that the correct definition has been establishes, it is important for both the parent and the teacher to work together to help the student succeed. Here are simple steps to be taken by responsible teachers and parents when they suspect a reading problem. First, ascertain an estimation of the child’s level of intelligence. Contact the appropriate school administrator and ask if the child has been given any group or individual intelligence tests in the last which would indicate his/her intelligence level. Do not try to pin them down to an exact IQ score; just simply ask if the child is average, below average or above average, according to the test results. Then, determine the child’s present level of reading skills. Use a simple reading test to find an estimate of the grade equivalent and instructional level. Then find out if the child has some or all of the typical signs and characteristics of a specific learning disability. Common characteristics are habitually and persistently reversing letters and numbers, miscopying a word in one place and copying it right in another, immature speech, and confusing the order of syllables in multisyllabic words, such as â€Å"japama† for pajama, â€Å"pasghetti† for spaghetti, and â€Å"aminals† for animals (Wagner, 1979, p. 48). Then, either the parent or the teacher should examine carefully the quality of the child’s oral reading and determine if he reverses letters or whole words. In particular, what needs to be looked at is the number of reversal errors, such as â€Å"was† for saw, which are typical for poor readers (Fisher Hartnegg, 2009). The last step is to try to find out where professional help is available, if needed (Wagner, 1979). Once the level of disability is found, then the student, parent and teacher can all work together to discover solutions for the child’s individual needs. There are many systems and practices for children with dyslexia. The first is the 15-minute session (Wagner, 1979, pg. 70). One of the outstanding characteristics of children with learning disabilities is that they have a very short attention span. After ten to fifteen minutes of instruction, they have simply had enough. This is why many are considered behavior problems. A fifteen minute reading session is a perfect amount of time for a child to sit and read. It is much better to take a break and then come back for another 15-minute session. But these sessions much be held consistently, every night, seven days a week. This is the secret: consistency with a system. Another technique is Integral Phonics Reading Program (IPRP), this method of teaching children to read is based on the long vowels (Brutten, Richardson Mangel, 1973). This routine gives the student extensive experience in one type of procedure while building a vocabulary of five hundred words. In the IPRP the linguistic patterns of the long vowels are used because the learner has been exposed to these letter sounds throughout his/her preschool years. When the child sees the letter a, he learns that its sound is going to be the same as it is in the alphabet. These long vowels say their names. The child has a difficult enough time remembering the sounds of the twenty-one other consonants of the alphabet that do not say their names. For example, the letter w sounds more like the alphabet name of y (Stordy Nicholl, 2000). â€Å"It is any wonder that many students see the word wait and think this word starts with y† (Stevenson, 1974)? Ev ery consonant in the English language has one or more sounds. The child has to bring to mind instantaneously what the sound is going to be as he meets each consonant. A 2009 study comparing differences amongst dyslexic Chinese speaking and English speaking children found that U. S. dyslexic children have difficulty finding or manipulating the sound structure of oral communication, which results in problems mapping speech sounds onto letter. In China, however, dyslexia is a phonological problem and a visuospatial disorder, according to researchers (Viadero, 2009). In the study, researchers asked normal and dyslexic Chinese readers to judge the size of visual stimuli and found that the nondisabled readers excelled. Individual learning differences can also be related to sex differences (McGuinness, 1981). First, the categories of learning disabilities are sex-related. Second, and more important, the literature on sex differences clearly indicates that individual variation in brai n organization, cognitive development, sensorimotor skills, and talent or interest is perfectly normal. One does not have to be brain-damaged or a victim of socialization to be different. When the Congress enacted Public Law 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, there was no sizable reaction from press or public, yet this landmark piece of legislation finally assures the right to education for all children (Walsh, 1979). If we as a nation believe that free public education should be available to all children, we must consider solutions for the learning-disabled child in public schools. How many of these students are actually being helped? The authors of â€Å"Something’s Wrong with My Child†, asked each state department of education in the form of a questionnaire. Forty-one states replied. â€Å"Used uncritically, of the 7 million-plus children with learning disabilities in public schools, their figures showed that a mere 240,000 children were get ting some kind of assistance in the 1970-1971 school year†(Brutten, Richardson Mangel, 1973, p. 81). The aid might have been anything, down to one ineffectual half-hour tutoring session a week for a child who needed much more. The true test of the value of the P. L. 94-142 will come, not in the realization of how many more children are handicapped by learning disabilities, but rather in how successfully those children will be helped to achieve their own potentials.
